The event was a success! That was after the problems in the beginning when we were told to find a new location because we could not hold the event in the Tribes Community Building, which has been used for several community events since it was built. On April 1st the doors of the Northern Lights Community Building were locked and, regretfully, all of the after school programs were canceled as a result of the lock-out. But, in the end there was a successful solar panel installation that took place on April 2nd in the community of White Shield. We were able to create awareness to a few people from Fort Berthold, both young and old, about the alternative options to fossil fuel use that we have as North Dakotan's. There will be a continuation of informational meetings on the topic of the oil refinery and attendance is highly encouraged if you'd like to know more or to get involved. The most recent meeting in White Shield was a success with about 40 people in attendance and the next meeting, in Mandaree, is set for Saturday April 19th. If I were to leave a message to the folks that came to the presentation and to others who might be reading this it would be something that is not a new thought but that we sometimes need to be reminded of and it is this: The most important thing to remember when making any decision is to think seven generations ahead.........and then make the decision keeping in mind the way it will impact the seventh generation from now. We still have a long way to go to get the leaders on board with our vision but overall the event was a success! Thank you to the Fort Berthold Boys & Girls Club, The Environmental Awareness Committee (EAC) of Fort Berthold, The administration and staff of the New Town High School and to the New Town News for your help in making the event a success. There IS a better way! : ) For more information about Lakota Solar Enterprises and to find out how to get your own solar panel visit: http://www.treeswaterpeople.org/tribal/tribal_solar.htm
